Servant Command was partially born out of the concept of a generative image in the dialogic space. Once upon a time the articulation of "sustainable development" did not exist. Pertinent to green space it was an either/or proposition. Along the way, individuals harnessed the power of two seemingly oppositional forces and created something powerful by combining them. Currently you would be hard pressed to find a reputable development company who does not dedicate effort to sustainability.
What is the best leadership model? That question can really only be answered as an opinion. The reality is that all of them have their merits situationally. The key is to know when and how to apply them.
Servant Leadership is lauded by many across disciplines. Although, when not understood and misapplied it can result in a lack of accountability and lessened results. Command and Control has been vilified (outside of the military) for quite some time. Conversely the take command and coordinate approach when understood and applied well can lead to significant results.
In our opinion the best leaders are the ones that are the most nimble. They understand that at times they must lead from the front and they also understand at times they must provide support. When, for how long, to whom and to what extent is where the application can become problematic.
Servant Command combines tenets of servant leadership and command and control aligned within the dialogic and diagnostic mindsets - combining these potentially adversarial concepts. Our leadership model considers urgency, complexity, relevance and how vital the solve is which assists us in guiding the appropriate approach in consideration of the greater spectrum of diagnostic to dialogic solves.
